Island peak, one of 18 designated 'trekking peaks' inthe country, stands at 6,189 m. (20,305 ft). This trekking peak offer great potential for independent trekking and climbing and provide a challenging but achievable alternative to full scale mountaineering expeditions with a chance to stand on top of a Himalayan peak. Trekking peaks do vary in terms of difficulty from non-technical plods to very technical climbs. Island peak is mostly a plod up but does require the use of ice axe and crampons and there is one part where a rope is needed.
Itinerary Outline
Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu Airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu free day for trekking preparation.
Day 03: Kathmandu fly to Lukla (2800m) then commence trek to Phakding (2600m)
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m)
Day 05: Excursion days.
Day 06: Trek to Thengboche Monastery (3867m)
Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4410m)
Day 08: Trek to Chukung (4700m)
Day 09: Trek to Island Peak BC (5100m)
Day 10: Island Peak Summit (6190m) and back to base camp
Day 11: An extra day incase of bad weather
Day 12: Trek back to Chhukung
Day 13: Trek back to Dingboche
Day 14: Trek to Thyangboche
Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazzar
Day 16: Trek back to Lukla
Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu
Day 18: A free day in Kathmandu
Day 19: Transfer to international airport
